CFP: ExAPP 2013 - Experimental Approaches to Perception and Production of Language Variation @ University of Copenhagen

March 20-22, 2013

PLENARY SPEAKERS
Mirjam Ernestus (Radboud University Nijmegen) Stefan Grondelaers (Radboud University Nijmegen) Oliver Niebuhr (Christian-Albrecht-University, Kiel) Antonella Sorace (University of Edinburgh)

CALL FOR PAPERS
Variability in linguistic behavior is studied in all branches of linguistics. While the approaches may differ in the objectives for studying language variation, they all benefit from incorporating the systematic manipulation of linguistic phenomena in the study of linguistic behavior. The study of the many kinds of variation that can be found in spontaneous speech can help to extend current models of speech production and speech perception, as well as shed light on the study of language change.

The goal of the ExAPP conference series is to gather scholars from all branches of linguistics employing experimental methods to investigate linguistic variation. We welcome abstracts for posters and papers that cover aspects of variation on all linguistic levels, and the perception as well as the production thereof.

These include, but are not limited to, the following topics:

Workshop: ERP Bootcamp

Prof. Steven Luck (UC, Davis) will be conducting the first UK version of
his well-known 'ERP Boot Camp' from 28 - 30 June (2012) in the School of
Psychology at Birmingham University. The Boot Camp is based on his
well-known book, "An Introduction to the Event-Related Potential
Technique" (MIT Press)

The ERP Boot Camp has been running for 5 years in the USA and taught many
hundreds of people how to conduct ERP experiments. It is an excellent
opportunity for staff and advanced students to learn and/or sharpen their
theoretical knowledge and practical skills. The version Steve will
conduct at Birmingham will be a 'mini boot camp' comprised of 2 days of
lectures and a half day of practical ERPLAB Toolbox data-analysis
activities.

I would very much appreciate it if you would alert your colleagues and
students to this opportunity. There are a limited number of places so
early registration is advisable at the Birmingham Online Shop:

CFP: The Social Side of Speech

'The Social Side of Speech' is a 1-day conference focusing on leading-edge international and national research in experimental sociophonetics. This research topic addresses empirical studies of how people speak the same language, yet do so differently depending on their social and geographical origins. Those speech differences are, in turn, demonstrably apparent to native listeners of the language.

The conference is sponsored by the MARCS Institute and the School of Humanities and Communication Arts, UWS and will take place at UWS Bankstown campus on Wednesday, 11 April 2012. We have an exciting line-up of invited talks by international experts, and talks about ongoing socio-phonetics research at MARCS Institute.

the semantics and pragmatics of dialogue in fields such as artificial
intelligence, computational linguistics, formal semantics/pragmatics,
philosophy, psychology, and neuroscience (see past SemDials).
In 2012 the workshop will be hosted by Universit? Paris-Diderot (Paris

of course one of the greatest cities to visit, especially in
September. SeineDial will be immediately preceded by a workshop on
Dialogue and Contextualism (a separate announcement on this will
appear shortly) and will feature a special session on The Acquisition
of Dialogue.

We invite papers on all topics related to the semantics and pragmatics
